The MAD is situated in a small 18th-century palace known as “Barbosa Maciel”. The museum possesses an exceptional collection of decorative arts including Indo-Portuguese meters and furniture which belonged to John V of Portugal and Joseph I of Portugal. An important part of the collection is composed of faience, namely the one made in Fábrica de Loiça de Viana (Viana Crockery Factory). Its rooms with glazed-tile framing representing the four continents, hunting scenes and palace life are also worthy of mention.
