Next to the Convent of San Gonçalo, the Church of São Domingos was built in 1725 by the Third Order of Saint Dominic to dedicate a place to Our Lord of Sorrows, whose image adorns the interior of the monument.

The façade, in baroque style, draws attention with the Dominican coat of arms topped by the tympanum, but it is the sumptuous decoration with gilded carvings inside that illuminates our gaze.

The image of the Crucified Christ – Our Lord of the Afflicted -, in polychrome papier-mâché, along with Our Lady, Saint John the Evangelist, and Saint Mary Magdalene (in wood covered with gold and polychromy) frame the main altar.

Also noteworthy are two seraphim-lamps (from the 18th century) next to the arch that delineates the main chapel.

Next to the church, there is another space that deserves a close visit: the Museum of Sacred Art.
