Baldaio is beach, lagoon, and marshland. A sandy area where you can breathe deeply and relax, in contact with nature. It is, in fact, one of the most important wetlands in Galicia and a special environmental protection area. The sea enters the land and mixes with the fresh waters that come from the local rivers. This creates a space, the marshland, much more fertile than any farmland. The dune bar, which connects Baldaio to Razo, extends for three kilometers. The people of Carballo enjoy completing their beach day by walking along this extensive sandy area, with the waves gently touching their feet. Ancient like the most treasured of our monuments, some of these dunes are already fossilized. The borders between the marshland and the lagoon are a privileged place to observe the great variety of birds that have Baldaio as their daily habitat or as a resting or destination point in their migratory journey. At the entrance of the lagoon, an ornithological observation point has been built, where you can observe, without them noticing your presence, the daily life of these birds, in peaceful coexistence with the work of the shellfish gatherers. You also have the option to join the birdwatching tours organized in the area.
