The Sargaço Museum aims to preserve, disseminate, and promote the culture of the “sargaço harvest” throughout the municipality of Esposende, especially in the parish of Apulia, where this activity is more intense and deeply rooted, being its greatest symbol and icon. of cultural promotion.
In the main exhibition hall, located on the ground floor, this team preserves the entire history and culture of the sargaço collection, where we can see the costumes, vessels, work tools, construction typologies, and artesa fields, some very well preserved. It has an exhibition of various historical videos and photographs. Through the exhibition on the upper floor, visitors will be able to learn about the environmental value and potential of the territories of the municipality of Esposende, where the activities of “sargaço harvest” have been carried out for centuries, based on the diversity of fauna. and flora and geological characteristics, linked to various instruments and planning plans.
In the logic of a more sustainable planet and in harmony with the environment, the Sargaço Museum aims to explore the potential of “those seaweeds that give to the sea”, both in the present and in the future, thus avoiding their traditional use. For the fertilization of agricultural fields, sargaço can also be used for hygiene, cosmetic, and food products.
