In October, the most important popular event in the municipality takes place: the Romeria da Nosa Señora do Rosario. Also known as the Nut Festival, as it is celebrated when the first walnuts appear in Gondomar, as a result of the cultivation of walnut trees, mainly in the parish of Melres.
In Largo de Santo António, celebrations whose origins date back to the 16th century are concentrated and which reach their peak with the grandiose procession held on the Monday following the 1st Sunday of October, a municipal holiday in Gondomar.
The people of Gondomar take great care in decorating the streets where the andores circulate, placing the best family quilts and embroidery on their balconies.
The Nossa Senhora do Rosário Pilgrimage attracts thousands of pilgrims who also seek out traditional taverns and popular entertainment.
