Popularly known as the “Cork Museum”, the Santa Maria de Lamas Museum is a special case in the history of 20th century Portuguese museography.

Focused on the figure of a collector (Henrique Amorim), it is presented as a project that preserves the idea of ​​transforming a private asset – the collection – into an institution of public benefit – the museum.

It displays a unique collection based on collections of sacred art, decorative arts, Portuguese statuary, ethnography, natural sciences, cork/cork agglomerate sculpture and industrial archaeology (machinery used in the early days of the cork processing industry) that highlights the potential of this material – highlights and reflects the identity of the local community.

The Santa Maria de Lamas Museum is a socially active, culturally and pedagogically relevant space, to evoke stories and tales, thus contributing to the deepening and dissemination of knowledge of heritage.
