The village of Caldas das Taipas is located next to the Ave River, 7 km from Guimarães and is surrounded by hills and rugged terrain such as the Falperra, Sameiro, Morreira and Outeirinho mountain ranges.

Populated since time immemorial, it preserves vestiges of small forts from the pre-Roman period in the surrounding mountains.

The archaeological remains from the Roman period of the peninsula explain the development of this population center, as well as the importance of the use of hot springs, whose use continues to this day.

The economic-industrial development was the determining factor that allowed this complex to be elevated to a Villa status in 1940, at a time when few population centers in the region held that title. Since 1950 onwards, the industrial expansion that took place throughout the country also had some repercussions in this town, through technological modernization and the expansion of manufacturing units.

Currently, Vila de Caldas das Taipas is recognized by the cutlery industry, with the production of pieces with original brands and designs, which “dress” the tables of the most important hotels, restaurants and homes around the world.

Alongside the industry, the Scientific and Technological Park, recently installed near the city, has brought knowledge and researchers at an international level, playing a relevant role in the development of Guimarães, in the educational, scientific, technological and business aspects, promoting a favorable environment for technological development and grassroots innovation, taking advantage of synergies and complementarities between the scientific-technological and local business community.

The Thermal Spa, a Belle Époque building, where illustrious personalities spent their summers, together with the tourist facilities, many of which were built at the beginning of the 20th century, make this spa a point of reference for lovers of well-being, tranquility , nature, heritage and gastronomy.
