On July 24, 1948, the first inauguration of the “Festa da Dorna” of Ribeira took place in Ribeira, a celebration declared of “Tourist Interest of Galicia” in 2005. Since its foundation it has been characterized by the imagination in the activities, the participation and the nuances of humor, by the dark irony, all in a festive flow apparently chaotic and carnivalesque, “the Dorneira tide”. In this festive atmosphere full of joy, popular culture, full of modernity and tradition, materializes.
Since its inception, the party has sailed through history, weathering storms like the ship it is named after. The dorna, a boat, is said to be “very seaworthy.” The dorna, a boat, is said to be very seaworthy; “La Dorna”, the party, “is the biggest”, the most groundbreaking, they sing in their anthem.
The party that brought together dozens of neighbors in its first year is today a meeting and entertainment point for thousands of people from all over Galicia and is increasingly known and recognized throughout Spain and beyond.
