The Armindo Teixeira Lopes Municipal Museum was opened in 1981 and is located in the Mirandela Cultural Centre.
The heirs of their patron, the Mirandela artist Armindo Teixeira Lopes, donated an important artistic legacy that is housed in this space and constitutes its permanent collection, in parallel with other offers and specific purchases made by the Municipality. The Museum’s collection is made up of contemporary works of art, mainly from the 20th century, mostly Portuguese.
The collection is made up of some 500 pieces, covering mainly the areas of painting, engraving, drawing and sculpture, and other less representative ones such as photography and medals. This collection illustrates the vicissitudes, concerns and hopes of Portugal that reflect the multiplicity of artistic currents developed from the 19th century to the present day.
Artists of the greatest national and international prestige are represented in the museum, highlighting, among others, the following names: Armindo Teixeira Lopes, Gil Teixeira Lopes, Hilário Teixeira Lopes, Nadir Afonso, Júlio Resende, Júlio Pomar, João Hogan, Graça Morais, Malangatana, Manuel Cargaleiro, Mário Cesariny, João Abel Manta, Antoni Tàpies, Almada Negreiros, Artur Bual, Vieira da Silva, José Rodrigues and Ângelo de Sousa.
