One of the most important archaeological sites in the Entre Douro e Vouga (EDV) region is located in Romariz.
Castro de Romariz is a fortified village dating from the 5th century BC with occupation levels up to the 1st century AD.
The archaeological work carried out here allowed us to identify the different phases of protohistoric and Roman occupation of this town.
Its collection is made up of numerous types of ceramics, glass, metals, coins and inscriptions, highlighting an expressive set of indigenous, Punic, Greek and Roman ceramics and two monetary treasures, an indicator of indigenous ergology, of regional and long-distance exchanges that show the richness of the chronological and cultural framework of the town, allowing us to recognize its importance in the context of the Castro culture of the Northwest Peninsula.
