Typical of Braga and created between the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, this sweet is traditionally eaten and celebrated on January 22, during the S. Vicente festivities and on March 19, during the S. José de S. Lázaro festivities and also to celebrate Father’s Day.

Moletinhos are very similar to almofadas (a kind of sweet bread usually eaten for breakfast, brushed with egg and sprinkled with sugar) but smaller and with a great tradition associated with them, being the symbol of the Romaria dos Meninos.

During the time of the pilgrimages of S. Vicente and S. José de S. Lázaro, it is common to see several Moletinho sellers near the churches. They are also sold in many pastry shops in the city, and they must be eaten with the hand, that is, without cutting them with a knife, to prevent the dough from drying out quickly.
