According to tradition, Margaride’s Pan de Ló originated in 1730 at the hands of an enigmatic confectioner named Clara Maria. The Ló bread factory was established in 1900 in a beautiful romantic-style village house, shortly after King Carlos declared it the official supplier to the Portuguese royal household. It is the oldest sweet in Felgueiras and every year the Margaride Biscuit Festival is held here, serving as an international showcase for traditional sweets.
