IGP Pemento da Arnoia
The pepper cultivated in A Arnoia constitutes an ecotype selected since ancient times by the farmers of this geographical area belonging to the Ribeiro region. Due to its limited production and scarce diffusion over the years, it barely extended beyond this geographical scope. The specificity of the A Arnoia pepper comes from a conjunction of many factors, including the plant material, the soil, and the microclimate of the producing valleys. The genetic, social, cultural, environmental, and economic interest in the recovery, conservation, and promotion of native plant varieties for certain territories is undeniable. This was understood by the horticulturists of A Arnoia, who could do little or nothing to compete against other more specialized producing regions, except through the specificity of a product like this.
