IGP Pemento de Oímbra
Agriculture has always been the main occupation of the inhabitants of the Verín region, encouraged by a peculiar microclimate and the fertility of its soils. The Oímbra peppers began to be cultivated with very archaic techniques that were gradually perfected. The ways of preparing Pemento de Oímbra are enormously varied: fried, stuffed, roasted, stewed, etc. There is a huge tradition among the population in the preparation of homemade preserves. The most traditional recipe consists of canning roasted peppers, following an absolutely artisanal and natural process.
Natural Environment
The production area of the peppers covered by the protected geographical indication Pemento de Oímbra consists of the entire Ourense region of Verín. The climatic conditions contribute to creating a very favorable environment for horticultural production, as the entire sector is protected from the humid fronts that arrive from the west by mountain ranges that help create very particular climatic conditions (a topoclimate), which are very suitable for the production of certain crops such as vines, olives, or peppers.
