Guimarães is located in the north of Portugal, and it was here where our First King, D. Afonso Henriques, was probably born! Our city is therefore known as the cradle of nationality.

Besides the Guimarães Castle and the Palace of the Dukes of Braganza, the Historic Center is indisputably one of the most beautiful urban spaces in the country, and it has the power of those places that take us on a journey through time. It was classified as a World Heritage Site in 2001 by UNESCO. The city has a wall that is still visible in some places, particularly the one with the inscription ‘Here Guimarães was born!’

It has several monuments of great importance, including the Church of Santa Maria da Oliveira, the Padrão do Salado, and the splendid Baroque church of S. Francisco, among many others. In this fabulous chest of memories, there are still symbols of a community, such as its rich crafts, convent sweets, and other unique traditions that can be visited at Casa da Memória.
