The creation of Peso da Régua dates back to the reign of King Sancho I, between 1202 and 1207. On December 26, 1513, King Manuel granted a charter to Peso da Régua, which was elevated to a municipality in 1836. Peso da Régua is the birthplace of the world’s first demarcated and regulated region: the Douro Demarcated Region. Here, in 1756, the General Company of Agriculture of the Vineyards of the Upper Douro was established, whose building is now the headquarters of the Douro Museum, where it is possible to learn more about the identity of the region. The landscape of the Douro wine region is classified as a World Heritage Site. It is bathed by the Douro River, a decisive element in the formation of the territory and in the way we have evolved. Visits to Peso da Régua and the Douro encompass a huge diversity of scenarios and immerse us in episodes full of enormous sensations, as charming as the discovery, at every moment, of new challenges.
