Born in history in 1205, with the charter granted by King Sancho I, the municipality of Famalicense is currently an important cultural, industrial, commercial, and agricultural center. The municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão benefits from the beauty of a green landscape, highlighted by the Devesa Park, with 23 hectares of green space, crossed by a river, a stream, a lake, and various cultural facilities. The local identity is reinforced by its traditions, making Vila Nova de Famalicão a genuine and attractive municipality, with gastronomy, crafts, and cultural and natural heritage being the main tourist products. Monasteries such as those of Landim and Arnoso are beautiful examples of architecture, as are the manor houses, such as those of Pindela and Vinhal, the Romanesque bridges, and the various churches and chapels. Vila Nova de Famalicão has a rich and diversified museum network, with several spaces dedicated to culture, such as the Casa das Artes and the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, which recently opened the Portuguese Center of Surrealism. Its motto is “I like to be happy here.”
