Viana do Castelo celebrates World Wine Tourism Day with a walk and a wine and food lunch.
Every year, on the second weekend of November, the Viana do Castelo City Council celebrates World Wine Tourism Day.
This year, to commemorate this date, the Viana do Castelo City Council is promoting the “Steps of Memory” walk along the Lima Valley Trail | PR 21, which will take you along 15 kilometres to discover the landscape, ecological and cultural wealth of the Geraz Lands, where the first vines were planted millennia ago and where wines have been produced since Roman times. This is a short route with an estimated duration of 4h30m, with a moderate degree of difficulty, which begins at the Chapel of S. Sebastião and ends at Rua de S. Sebastião, in Santa Maria de Geraz do Lima.
The tour will end with a wine and food lunch at the winery of one of the local producers, Sobrinho do Arcipreste (cost per person: 25.00 euros).
The European Day of Wine Tourism has been celebrated by the European Network of Wine Cities (RECEVIN) since 2009, and has become a global event since 2019, when the World Association of Wine Tourism (AMETUR) was created. Thus, throughout the country and around the world, wine tourism agents, producers and municipalities commemorate this day by organizing various experiences around wine.
