The Entroido (Carnival), one of our most important festivals. Ourense begins on Comadres Thursday (when everyone must dress as a woman) and continues on Saturday, Sunday with its traditional parade, Monday, Tuesday (local holiday), and ends on Wednesday with the Burial of the Sardine. Let’s not forget the unique entroidos of the rural areas, such as As Pitas de Eiroás and Paquita and Nicanor de Seixalbo.

It should not be forgotten that the Entroido in Ourense is also about gastronomy, with its typical menu for this season, featuring the Galician stew (with all kinds of pork meats) and, for dessert, sweet ears.

Until the Burial of the Sardine, with a funeral procession of mourners bidding farewell to this fish, marks the beginning of Lent, in Ourense you can witness a perfect fusion of urban carnival with the most traditional rural one; you can see the Pitas, the local mask, parade; or you can learn about the particular tradition of the Frei Canedo brotherhood in the A Ponte neighborhood.
