On the last Saturday of August, it is possible to experience a real medieval day in Ribadavia.

In the Jewish quarter of Ribadavia takes place one of the most authentic medieval festivals of all those that take place in Galicia.

The day begins on Saturday morning with the reading of the bando de la historia through the streets and squares of the town. The Jewish quarter, decorated in medieval style, hosts stands of gastronomic products, with benches and tables to eat, and handicraft products, where it is essential to pay with maravedís (prior exchange of currency in an office installed in the Town Hall).

The best way to enjoy the festival is to go dressed in medieval style, no matter the character or your social rank, and to make it easier for attendees, the organization of the festival has thousands of costumes for rent. Thus, you can participate in the parade of the Istoria, open to anyone who is dressed in period costume, or in the medieval dinner, in the grounds of the castle of Sarmiento, in which nobles and vilanos give account of the most typical products of Galician cuisine accompanied by the good wines of O Ribeiro.

The day is enlivened by an intense program of activities, from games for children and living children’s chess, to fighting knights, dances of ladies without knights, Jewish wedding, falconry demonstrations, archery … all in the purest medieval scenery.

Highlight: The representation of the “Jewish wedding”.
