The last Saturday of August, it is possible to experience a true medieval day in Ribadavia. In the Jewish quarter of Ribadavia, one of the most authentic medieval festivals in all of Galicia takes place. The day begins on Saturday morning with the reading of the history proclamation through the streets and squares of the town. The Jewish quarter, decorated in medieval style, hosts stalls of gastronomic products, with benches and tables for eating, and artisanal products, where it is essential to pay with maravedís (after exchanging currency at an office set up in the Town Hall). The best way to enjoy the festival is to dress in medieval style, regardless of the character or social rank, and to facilitate the task for attendees, the festival organization offers thousands of costumes for rent. Thus, one can participate in the Istoria parade, open to anyone dressed in period attire, or in the medieval dinner, in the Sarmiento castle grounds, where nobles and commoners enjoy the most typical products of Galician cuisine accompanied by the fine wines of O Ribeiro. The day is enlivened by an intense program of activities, from children’s games and live chess, to knight fights, ladies’ dances without knights, Jewish wedding, falconry demonstrations, archery… all in the purest medieval setting. Highlight: The representation of the “Jewish wedding”.
