The celebration of municipal fairs has always had a strong tradition in Minho. The day on the calendar is marked by the fortnight. People living in the villages soon got used to going to the fairs, either to sell their products or to stock up on products for themselves, their family, their home, or their work. Farmers, seamstresses, housewives, and market traders got used to coexisting in this space, which has been in use for centuries. Over time, the range of products for sale at the fairs grew, which forced the promoters of these events to expand the venues, providing them with more attractive planning, circulation, and access conditions, as happened in Esposende. Currently, the venue for the fortnightly market of Esposende is located to the east of the city’s urban core, next to the barracks of the Territorial Post of Esposende of the National Republican Guard and the Central Bus Station of Esposende, 200 m from the junction of E.N.13 with Mouchinho Street. This space is organized by sectors, with more than 100 terrace spaces for non-sedentary retail trade. The market is held on Mondays, every fortnight, and has free public parking. Inside the Bus Station, there is a food and beverage establishment and public restrooms in the vicinity of the venue, which serve as support for traders and consumers.
