For several decades, the Corredoura Folklore Group has been carrying out an intense work of collection and research related to the flax cycle, together with the most veteran people of Rua da Corredoura and historians from the municipality of Guimarães.
Due to the need to put into practice all the work developed until then, in 1980 the first Flax Festival was organized, called “Linhal da Corredoura”, an activity that is repeated annually to this day.
The Flax Festival consists of an open-air public demonstration of all the stages of flax, from harvesting to spinning, which will then be passed on to the hand loom. Due to its importance in the preservation, dissemination and conservation of one of the richest activities in ethnography, Linhal da Corredoura is considered by the City of Guimarães as a Festival of Municipal Interest.
