Oenach, an Indo-European origin word, which means something like “place of community gathering”, etymologically represents the content of this CULTURAL EVENT. Under a format of meeting or gathering in a common place, the Oenach Atlántico, after eleven years of history, tries to remain faithful to its initial vocation based on three axes:
- Bring Galician cultural heritage closer to the public from didactic approaches devoid of erudition, but nourished by research sources.
- Work with the population, through a process of participation of the citizens themselves in the recreation.
- Structure an event integrating various fields or areas of cultural heritage: popular theatrical recreation, crafts, traditional musical ethnography and new trends, exhibitions of native livestock – gastronomic day of native products – (rural economy), rural sports and traditional games, museum exhibitions, and recreations about Castrejo culture.
Therefore, the Oenach Atlántico, which takes place in the old Feira do Trece, has maintained an average attendance of more than fifteen thousand attendees over the last eleven years, with around a hundred people from the parish where it is located (Sedes) participating. It is becoming an ethnographic and cultural reference in the province of A Coruña.
