Rio de Onor is one of the most emblematic villages of Bragança and the Montesinho Natural Park, having been elected in 2017 as one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal – Village in a Protected Area. Straddling the border with Spain, on one side is Rio de Onor, and on the other, Rihonor de Castilla, hence the saying “one village, two countries!”
Communal Mill: Communalism is the identity of Rio de Onor which, along with its own dialect – Rionorez, makes a visit to this village a unique and enriching experience.
Bull House: Museum space dedicated to the history and culture of Rio de Onor, where it is possible, through the use of new technologies, to go back in time and observe communalism, the governance of the Council, the village bull, and the boys’ festivals. The name of this space is related to the fact that, in the past, this was the building that housed the village’s communal bull.
Carabelho: Throughout Trás-os-Montes, you’ll find this type of very rudimentary lock; however, in Rio de Onor, it’s almost a rule. Coming in various shapes, this tool is used to lock the doors of shops and barns and is only possible in villages where trust reigns since they are very easy to open.
