The conversion and expansion of the warehouse of the old Fafe train station, which was practically abandoned after the interruption of the Guimarães-Fafe section in 1986, gave way to a new cultural infrastructure in Fafe: the Memória Station.

Memória Station is an interpretive museum and functions as a time capsule. In this space, under the pretext of history, traditions and nature that characterize Fafe, the experience of visiting becomes an unforgettable journey for all visitors and brings with it the suitcase of learning.

The old goods warehouse was adapted and reused as an art gallery, with the possibility of hosting other cultural activities in an auditorium with a capacity of 100 seats.

Composed of three “capsule cars” and an exhibition area, each element of this building complex is a window to different periods of Fafe’s history, reflecting the past, present and future.

In the first carriage we are transported to the rural origins of Fafe, a time when the land was the livelihood and heart of the community. Here the story of the Brazilians, emigrants who returned after becoming rich in Brazil, is told in detail. Through this time window, the visitor learns about the legend of the Justice of Fafe, traditions such as the stick game, reviving the community spirit that characterized the region.

It is also in this space that meetings with illustrious Fafenses take place, providing the visitor with an immersion in the history of the territory and the people who built it. The experience is essentially digital, immersive and interactive.

In the second carriage, the narration moves forward to the present, showing Fafe through an immersive video landscape in which the central object of the narration is a magic clock. This artifact symbolizes the time that flows and connects the different generations of Fafenses, highlighting the cultural, social and economic riches of the municipality. Here, Fafe’s continuous evolution is celebrated, highlighting the defense of traditions and natural adaptation to new times. It is, above all, an invitation to passengers on this immersive journey so that, at the end of the visit, they will want to explore and get to know Fafe better.

Finally, the third carriage moves towards the future along the path of sustainability, renewable energy and the wealth of the municipality’s natural heritage. The Interpretive Museum aims to inform and inspire by involving visitors in ecological practices, offering the opportunity to interact with Vitelinhas, Fafe’s bike-sharing system, which symbolizes the community’s commitment to fluid mobility, environmental sustainability and ecotourism.

Memória Station is not just a place to learn about the History of Fafe. It is a platform for dialogue where different perspectives and narratives meet and interact, with a single goal: to live and feel Fafe.
