The Tua Line was inaugurated on 29 September 1887 at a ceremony attended by King Louis I and Queen Maria Pia of Savoy. Its construction was driven by the entrepreneurial vision of Clement Menéres, a man who believed in the economic potential of Trás-os-Montes.

In 2024, Mirandela railway station reopens its doors to the public as a venue for arts and culture.
