Located in Quinta da Boa-vista, in the centre of Maia, the Gramaxo Foundation has belonged to the Gramaxo family since the 17th century and preserves the rural past, maintaining the various original buildings: the Solar (private), the farm and the Farm House, the Day Laborers’ House, the stable, the garages, the Kiosk.
The large park of the property survived the real estate pressure and preserves the memory of old agricultural fields.
With the desire to open this privileged place to the community, in particular to the citizens of Maia, and to promote arts and culture, the Gramaxo Foundation was created in 2013. The idea of building a Museum arose, designed by Architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, completed in 2021.
The Museum houses segments of the Maria de Fátima Gramaxo Collection, also providing a network of spaces hosting temporary exhibitions and an auditorium. In 2024, under the direction of Jorge Gramaxo, it reopened its doors with a new artistic project developed around three guiding principles: Collecting, Arts and Architecture; Thought and Cultural Mediation; Nature and Quality of Life.
