Paulo “Speedy” Gonçalves is one of the greatest figures in Portuguese motorcycling.
Originally from the municipality of Esposende, he was born in the parish of Gemeses on February 5, 1979, and died on January 12, 2020, in Saudi Arabia, after falling in the seventh stage of the 42nd edition of the Dakar Rally. The passion for competition, friendship, camaraderie and dedication are reflected in the reading of the dynamic image of this sculpture, creating a generational meeting point and a commemorative tribute to the hero of the Municipality and the motorized universe.
