This viewing point over the Sil Canyon offers a beautiful and wide view of the terraced slopes of the Ribeira Sacra.

It is located in the Monfortina parish of Marcelle, 15 km from Monforte, almost 500 metres above the waters of the Sil. At its feet is the Ponte do Sil pier, where you can take the catamarans that operate the river routes developed by the Provincial Council of Lugo.

From this enclave we can see the mountains covered with scrub, among which we can appreciate the impossible vineyards planted on the terraces of the slopes. In the tree stratum there is a meeting between two climatic zones. Thus, on the shady slopes there is a notable existence of chestnut groves of a certain type, while on the sun slopes Mediterranean vegetation predominates with some cork oaks and the sporadic presence of holm oaks. The Mediterranean influence, marked by stone crops, aromatic plants (oregano, rosemary and thyme) and the cultivation of vines and olive trees, penetrates through the Sil River.

It is an area of rich fauna where we find wild boars, wolves, foxes, deer and otters. Numerous amphibians, reptiles and birds also live here. The particular climatic conditions allow species such as ducks and herons to spend the winter in the Sil.

The Sil Canyon is listed as a Site of Community Importance (SCI). It is also part of the Natura 2000 Network of Galicia with an area of 5,914 ha. The Ribeira Sacra as a whole has been declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) with the category of cultural landscape.
