As a reference green space in the region, we find Monte Xalo. A unique place to go hiking, practice adventure sports, observe the fauna and flora, or marvel at the surrounding views offered from its summit. It is a prominent part of the Galicia Landscape Catalog as a place of interest in the viewpoints section and areas of special landscape interest.
In addition to the megalithic remains, the peculiar geological formations were a breeding ground for the proliferation of all kinds of legends.
At its summit, located more than 500 meters above sea level, is the source of the Valiñas River, which, along with the Barcés, drains our municipality until it merges into the Mero and flows into the estuary.
The flora of Xalo is varied. There are significant plantations of Monterey pine (Pinus Radiata), whose specimens are very scarce in the Province of A Coruña, of maritime pine (Pinus pinaster) and white eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), one of the great colonizers of Galician flora. Also notable is the presence of native species: oaks ( (Quercus Robur), chestnuts (Castanea Sativa) and alders ( (Alnus Glutinosa).
One of the best places to enjoy the panoramic views offered by O Xalo is O Petón, a well-known climbing spot.
