The monastery of the Visitation of the Salesas Reales was designed in 1942 by the architect Antonio Palacios. It is located in the Calzada de Teis neighbourhood, close to Sanjurjo Badía street.
The building is in a regionalist style, with a certain medieval air, in which traditional Galician construction systems are used. Antonio Palacios reflects his construction experience in it, as he is also the author of other emblematic buildings such as the Votive Temple of the Sea – in the nearby town of Panjón – or the current headquarters of the Porriño Town Hall, although in this case it is more monumental.
The initial project consisted of a large courtyard around which several pavilions were arranged, completing the complex with a monumental church that was blessed in 1945, although in the end only the first pavilion was built.
The construction material used is granite; This, together with the use of unpolished stones on the façade, gives the façade a rustic appearance, reinforced by the presence of buttresses on the exterior walls. Only in the openings can the work of the stonemasons be seen.
