The Monastery of Santa Maria de Pombeiro, a national monument, was founded in the second half of the 11th century. The monastery and the church still bear traces of the different periods it has gone through, in particular the romantic structure (apsidioles, western portal and rose window) from the late 12th and 13th centuries, its restoration and reconstruction in the modern era after the ruin and decay of the monastery from the 14th to the 16th century (cloister, carvings and paintings).
The sacred space of this monastery in the Modern Age covers the entire avenue that runs from the church to the vicinity of the cemetery, where the Passal cross marks its limit.
