A giant of sand that moves slowly driven by the southwest winds without us noticing. This is the largest mobile dune in the northwest of Spain with approximate measurements of 1 km in length, 250 meters in width, and 15 meters in height, which presides over this Natural Park of the Corrubedo Dune Complex and the Carregal and Vixán Lagoons (one of the seven in Galicia, officially recognized in 1992). The enormous natural and scenic value of this place of almost 1,000 hectares will make us fall in love with it on the first visit. It is an excellent example of a barrier-littoral complex, which hosts a great variety of different habitats in good conservation status and with an impressive dune system that formed more than 12,000 years ago. We can bathe in the waters of the Atlantic along 5 km of sandy beaches (A Ladeira, Ferreira, A Lagoa, O Vilar, and Anguieiro). Inland, we will walk along the dune bars that separate the sea from two beautiful wetland areas: the Carregal lagoon and marsh (with saltwater) and the Vixán lagoon (with freshwater). The flooded areas also have great international ornithological importance due to the passage of birds that nest in the place. In the Vixán lagoon, there is a bird observatory.
