Natural space, of about 20 hectares, resulting from the intervention of the Polis Program in Viana do Castelo. Located east of the Historic Center and west of the Eiffel Bridge, the Park is an integral part of the Lima River estuary, which extends an arm to its right bank, being an area of high interest and environmental sensitivity. Awarded the National Prize for Landscape Architecture, it can be considered as the “first halophile park in Portugal”.

The Urban Ecological Park is known by the people of Viana do Castelo as “Caldeira de D. Prior” or “Caldeira de Maré”. It was in this area that the conditions were met to retain water during high tide (high tide) that would put into operation the Azenhas de D. Prior tidal mill (current CMIA – Environmental Interpretation and Monitoring Center). Visiting the Park is a unique opportunity to be in contact with nature and appreciate the natural features and biodiversity present in this space.

The Park is an important coastal wetland, fed daily by brackish water from the tides and fresh water from the S. Vicente stream, making it a true biological hotspot in the city of Viana do Castelo. In this space, visitors can enjoy the different leisure areas and facilities, always in contact with nature.
