The Amarante Forest Park, with an area of around five hectares, offers beauty and well-being to those who visit it, due to the variety of flora species – from sequoias to lime trees, plane trees and maples – and fauna, such as partridges and crows. Located in the heart of the city, in “communion” with the Tâmega River, the Amarante Forest Park is very popular for leisure, sports and hiking.
The beginning of its planting dates back to 1916, on the initiative of António do Lago Cerqueira, with the main objective of afforestation of the Marão and Meia Via mountain ranges. Later, with the 1985 fire in the Serra do Marão, thousands of trees would again leave the park’s nurseries to be replanted.
