Pena Grande is the most important and monumental Paleolithic site in Galicia. Groups of nomadic hunters camped under this powerful rocky outcrop on a seasonal basis. From their privileged settlement, well protected from the inclemency of the cold climate of the time, they controlled the migrations of the large herds of animals that crossed the territory; these animals served them as food, provided them with skins for shelter and offered them antlers and bones to make spear points and sewing needles.
