The Cerves River originates in the Serra de Faro de Avión, at an altitude of about 1000 meters. In its steep descent to Melón, it forms magnificent rapids and fascinating waterfalls and pools. It is at an altitude of about 500 meters where most of these beautiful pools are concentrated, which in summer become authentic natural swimming pools suitable for bathing. At kilometer 605 of the old N-120, where the river crosses this road, is where the easiest access is found, a place called A Freixa. Here the river passes through up to three bridges from different periods of the 20th century. Once the river crosses the N-120, it heads to a narrow gorge where it becomes confined and where a mini hydroelectric plant has been built that retains the waters of the Cerves on their way to Prexigueiro. Before the reservoir, we can still appreciate the remains of what until recently was a beautiful medieval bridge, since, at the beginning of the 21st century, the erosion caused by fires made the water descend uncontrollably and destroyed the beautiful medieval bridge forever. Here the river already offers us the first more accessible pools.
