The Cathedral of Braga is the oldest cathedral in the country, a title that guarantees popular jokes with expressions such as “older than the Cathedral of Braga”. In fact, the construction project for this Cathedral began when Portugal was not a nation, which explains why the entire city of Braga grew up around the Cathedral itself.
With several architectural styles visible on its facades and walls, namely Romanesque and Gothic, with a mostly Baroque interior, the Cathedral of Braga has great importance for the rhythm of the city. This mix of architectural styles is due, above all, to the extension of the initially designed plan, so that, over the years, the Cathedral incorporated five chapels, two cloisters, a Galilee, an apse, a transept and a sacristy.
