The quinta Vila Beatriz dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. XX and was built by Amadeu Ferreira de Sousa Vilar. The building’s design was by architect José Teixeira Lopes Júnior, with an eclectic taste, possessing characteristics of the “Portuguese house” from the beginning of the last century. The building is enriched by eye-catching tile panels from the Aleluia factory, in Aveiro, with rural and bucolic themes. The building is turreted and also has a sundial. It later belonged to Luís Soares, a large industrialist from Ermesinde. The space (house and surrounding land) acquired in 1985 by the municipality, was readapted into a Sociocultural Center, opening on November 19, 1989. It has a reading center at the Municipal Library of Valongo, exhibition and lecture spaces and outside a garden with varied and interesting tree species, as well as a lawn area with trees and a children’s playground.
