The Villa de Fão, an ancient salt-producing centre in the Middle Ages, is notable for its historic centre. In the old urban structure of the Villa, on the left bank of the Cávado, when we walk through its streets it is easy to see the great influence that Brazilian culture had at the beginning of the 20th century, through the Brazilian taste of the rich “travellers” who built notable residences. We can clearly see this trend, for example, in the current Largo do Cortinhal, in the imposing residence of Pinto de Campos, commander of the Merchant Navy, as well as at the southern end of the Alameda do Bom Jesus. It is in this space that Francisco de Campos Morais, founder of Campos Morais & C.a, in the city of Rio Grande do Sul, established his “palace”, recreating a typically Brazilian atmosphere.
