The Jewish community established in Monforte was one of the largest in Galicia. They did not reside in a specific neighbourhood, but lived with the rest of the population spread over several areas, which is why the medieval town of Monforte is a Jewish area. They were especially dedicated to the silk and fabric trade, silverwork, medicine, and law. The Jewish-dominated streets: Falagueira, A Calexa, Pescaderías, Zapaterías and the current Plaza de España are, among other spaces in the area around the wall through which one accesses the intramural part. This Jewish legacy is what justified the adhesion of Monforte de Lemos as a member of the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain-Caminos de Sefarad since 2001.
