On the second Saturday of August, San Cibrao exalts its seafaring culture by recreating the legend of its famous mermaid known as “A Maruxaina”, for some an assistant and collaborator with the sailors and for others a traitor who deceives them by diverting them from their route. On this day, people of the sea carry the mermaid Maruxaina through the streets in a procession that culminates on O Torno beach, where a particular trial is held that ends with her pardon.
