Braga En’Cena 2024 started on April 7 and will run until October 8, aspiring to be a historic celebration of local theatre, highlighting artistic talent, exploring narratives and promoting the theatrical experience. It is a cultural celebration, where artistic expressions and stories come to life and theatre is revealed as an essential pillar of Braga’s cultural identity.
In total, the Festival presents eight new shows, in a celebration of local theatre companies.
Tickets for the shows are available at the Teatro Circo box office and online at www.bol.com.br. The cost of each ticket is five euros.
On June 12, at 9:30 p.m., the Cooperativa de Ensino Artístico – CEA will take the stage at Teatro Circo, with the play “Asas de Pedra”, an unexpected drama, which starts from a poetic and inspiring image for an unimaginable and difficult to accept.
On July 7th, at 5pm, it is the turn of Grupo Cênio de Arentim to present the show “Passa Por Mim Na Arcada”. A piece of musical comedy that promises to be very lively.
“Se Uma Gaivota Viesse” by Tin.Bra – Academia de Teatro takes the stage on July 31st, at 9.30pm. Based on the novel “Fernão Capelo Gaivota”, by Richard Bach, and inspired by the sculpture “O Vigilante”, by Alberto Vieira (exhibited in Rua do Castelo, in Braga), the show “maybe teaches us to always fight for freedom, with wings that spread in the great flights of birds”.
After a short break, Braga En’Cena returns to Teatro Circo on September 10th, at 9.30pm, with the play “Voltamos Todos”, by Projeto Expressar. In the framework of the 50th anniversary of April 25th and in a staging close to documentary and local theatre, “Voltamos Todos” (We All Go Back) starts from the colonial war and recovers memories of these 50 years of a group of 12 men who lived in the Misericordia neighbourhood in Braga.
The initiative closes the curtain on October 8th, at 9:30 pm, with the show “Palabras Pendientes” (Pending Words), by MalaD’arte Produções. With a realistic set design and a compelling narrative, “Pangling Words” challenges social conventions and delves into the depths of the human soul, exploring the corrosive effects of oppression and the annulment of individual freedom.
