The Biscaínhos Palace was founded in the 17th century and architecturally defined in the first half of the 18th century. For almost three centuries it was the home of a noble family (the Counts of Bertiandos), and became a public museum on 11 February 1978. In 1949, the building and its gardens were classified as a Public Interest Asset. The museum’s garden is one of the most significant of the Baroque period in Portugal.
The permanent exhibition of the Biscaínhos Museum offers a contextualised view of collections of decorative arts (furniture, jewellery, ceramics, glass, textiles, etc.), musical instruments, means of transport, engravings, sculpture/tiles, tiles and paintings from the period between the 17th century and the first quarter of the 19th century.
