Of Baroque origin, the Church of São Pedro was built in 1528 by order of D. Pedro de Castro, Abbot of Mouçós, who has a tomb there, in 1692. Domingos Botelho da Fonseca, a nobleman of the Royal House, who also lies there, gave orders to cover the main chapel with tiles. The richness of the carving and the coffered ceiling are noteworthy. With a profusely decorated doorway, this temple is one of the best religious examples of the Baroque style in Vila Real, being the only church with two bell towers in Vila Real.
