Known by the acronym MIHL, this modern building has become an international reference in contemporary architecture, and in it, in the words of its architects the studio Nieto y Sobejano, architecture and landscape merge in their proposal of a museum-park or a park-museum. It currently houses a permanent exhibition that reviews the historical evolution of the city of Lugo through audiovisual resources, interactive models, and informative panels, along with a small selection of archaeological pieces among which the granite monolith that contains the city’s founding inscription, ordered to be erected by Paulo Fabio Máximo in honor of Emperor Augustus, stands out. Other pieces of interest are also exhibited, such as a terracotta theatrical mask and a set of epigraphic and ceramic pieces. The MIHL also has a wide program of temporary exhibitions and cultural and educational activities.
