Sarria is a town in the interior of the province of Lugo, located in the valley of the Sarria River, 115km from Santiago de Compostela via the French Way; this is one of the reasons why many pilgrims of different nationalities choose Sarria to start their pilgrimage on foot and reach Compostela. The Way passes through its historic center, where you can see notable monuments such as the Torre da Fortaleza, the only preserved element of an ancient military fortification built in the 13th century and demolished in the Irmandiña Revolt, located in the highest part of the town, or the Monastery of La Madalena, founded in the 12th century to welcome pilgrims. Next to the Torre da Fortaleza is the Livestock Market where livestock fairs are held on the 6th, 20th, and 27th of each month. Currently, Sarria is a modern and dynamic town, with a varied commercial, cultural, sports, and leisure offer. There are notable leisure areas such as Praza da Vila, Paseo do Malecón, or Parque do Chanto.
