The Dorna Festival is one of the most original and prolific festive expressions in the world. In its more than 70 years of existence, it has formed an impressive array of the most unique activities, and its history reflects that the promoters seem to be infected with an tireless and insatiable innovative spirit. All for the festival. Among the Dorna activities, full of irony and wit, are the ‘Gala Dance’, ‘Skipper Exam’, ‘Top Secret’, ‘Regatta of boats made with an axe and propelled by corn bread’, ‘Itinerant tavern song contest’, ‘Fanequeiras imprisonment’, ‘Great Icarus prize for motorless flight’, ‘Peñas pilgrimage’ or the well-known ‘Great Prix of soapbox cars’ where humor always prevails over speed. The main protagonists are the Dorna peñas. Declared Festival of Tourist Interest of Galicia, it takes place around July 24th.
