Cuisine

The flavors and richness of traditional cuisine have been preserved and improved, based on endogenous products, thanks to wise cooks.

The most popular delicacies include lamprey, in-between January and April, and the traditional turnip broth, which Gondomar natives don’t do without during the Municipal Festivals, throughout September and October.

Today, gastronomy is one of Gondomar’s main tourist attractions, a product of more than two decades continuously holding, highly-renowned gastronomic festivals.  ‘Festival do Sável e Lampreia’ (Shad and Lamprey Festival), held in February and March, the ‘Caldo de Nabos’ (Turnip Broth), held in September and October, and, more recently, the initiative dedicated to ‘Rojões e Papas de Sarrabulho à Moda de Baguim do Monte’, in February, has won over a growing number of connoisseurs.

Regarding pastries, the highlights include Coração de Gondomar and Mimo D´Ouro, sweets inspired by regional products such as nuts, turnips and honey. Last but not least, we highlight the growing presence of green wine produced in the municipality.
