The arrival of autumn and the harvesting of corn give way in the parish of Doso to the recreation of the traditional husking of corn. Neighbors of the parish remember together those times when large areas of corn were cultivated and everyone gathered to help with the tasks of dehusking, leaving the ears of corn ready to later collect the grain.
Every year several carts of corn arrive at the Doso sports court escorted by a musical procession. There, dozens of people are waiting, ready to collaborate in the dehusking and who also have the opportunity to see the traditional exhibition of corn dolls, in which hundreds of local schoolchildren participate every year. Through the Patronato de la Cultura, children learn to make their own corn dolls, helped by staff who previously explain the tradition of deshoja in Galicia in the classrooms.
The deshoja event in Doso also has a gastronomic section, in which the neighbourhood is encouraged to make desserts with seasonal products – pumpkin, corn, chestnuts – and after assessing their quality they are tasted communally on the Esfolla day itself.
In order to create an atmosphere for the event, many neighbours and visitors come every year wearing typical clothes from the beginning of the 20th century.
